Karen Albright, PhD

Director of Research and Outcomes

Karen brings to Powerful Homes an extensive background in outcomes research and evaluation. A systems scientist and health services researcher by training, she earned a PhD in Sociology from New York University and received postdoctoral training in outcomes research through fellowships at the University of California-Berkeley and the University of California-Los Angeles. She has lived in Denver, Colorado, since 2008, where she has been a faculty member at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus and the University of Denver. Karen is a skilled methodologist with expertise in a variety of qualitative and quantitative methods of data collection, analysis, and evaluation. Since 2010, her work has been awarded more than $21 million in funding from federal and state agencies and private foundations.

As the daughter of an Army officer, Karen lived in many places growing up and observed first-hand the socioeconomic and health disparities that exist across communities. Thus, throughout her career, Karen’s research has focused on understanding and mitigating social inequalities. As an applied social scientist cognizant of the complex social, psychological, and economic factors that affect human behavior, she is deeply invested in exploring innovative solutions to barriers that prevent optimal health and well-being. To do so, she has collaborated with a wide variety of community, medical, non-profit, corporate, and academic organizations. Her goal is ultimately to even the playing field by driving financial and health equity across populations.
