Welcome to the Housing Literacy Podcast with host, Matt Guarino, founder of Powerful Homes. Matt's mission is to empower dreams through home ownership. We're here to help. We're going to do this together and now Matt Guarino.

My name is Matt Guarino, and this is Power 180, 3 minutes of housing literacy that can transform your life, brought to you by Powerful Homes. So as we kick off this first installment, I thought we'd start with that word. Powerful. And today's question is very straightforward. Why are we all so powerful? Let that sink in. Why are we also powerful? The answer is very easy. It's because we are the only species in the history of the world that can intentionally change the future. It's just an amazing concept. No other species can do that, but human beings. And so here at Power 180, what we do is we give you some receipts. We give you some real experiences, not just head knowledge or things we've read about. So I'll do that right now.

I believe that everyone can change their future. And when I was 11 years old my dad told me that he couldn't pay for my college. So my initial reaction was at 11 years old that, oh, no, I can't go to college. But the next day I realized that he told me that he couldn't do it, but he didn't say that I couldn't do it. So, what I did as in changing the future, making a decision, is I got a paper route and I ended up having a paper route and for the next six, seven years. And I ended up having $30,000. By the time I graduated high school, which was enough to pay for college at James Madison university, which I went to, which was only 24,000 for all four years.

So we're the only species that can change the future. Intentionally. I did that unknowingly at the time which led me to go to JMU, which later led me to go to Pricewaterhouse and the Real Estate Group, which led me to create a real estate career buying and selling over $300 million of properties over the last 20 years or so flipped hundreds of homes did some land transactions as well as other things.

So I believe that one of the best decisions you can make to intentionally change the future is to buy a home as early as possible and hold it as long as possible. You will dramatically change your future if you do that. And so no matter what your education level is, no matter where you are from or where your family's from, what your race is or how old you are, you can change the future. And because of that, you are more powerful than you'll ever know.
