Episode Transcript:

Welcome to the Housing Literacy Podcast with host Matt Guarino, founder of Powerful Homes. Matt's mission is to empower dreams through home ownership. We're here to help. We're going to do this together and now Matt Guarino.

My name is Matt Guarino and this is Power 180, housing literacy that can transform your life and empower your dreams. Today's question is when should I buy a home? And the simple answer from our perspective here at Powerful Homes is as soon as possible, how are we so sure? Three simple words, ownership, changes, everything creates an idea of playing the long game. It activates a level of caring. That's hard to describe, and it instantly gives you purpose and a level of commitment, that is good.

So why don't people buy a home? I think there's three main reasons why. I think there's the waiting idea that so often people are waiting, just waiting and waiting and waiting for their life to start, to become a habit. Patience is great, but just only waiting and putting it off, isn't great. Because the idea that of buying a home doesn't get easier when you put it off.

And the other thing that may hold people back, I believe is that the fear of making a mistake, you know, there'll never be a perfect house, in the perfect location. There'll be challenges and mistakes and things that happen with every home. And they'll be the messy middle when you buy something, there'll be a messy middle in there. But when you come out on the other side, it's life altering when you persevere through struggles and challenges.

And the last thing is that people think that it'll hold them back and tie them down, you know, it is 24 x 7, 365 owning a home just like parenting. But the feeling of ownership does not have to haunt you and slow you down. And the reality is that there's only a few moments a year that you have to adult, and act like the owner the rest of the time. There's no difference between owning and any other thing like renting.

So we have the receipts here at Powerful Homes and Power 180. We have a 20 year old buy his first home as early as possible in December. And he got past all of these things, the waiting, the fear of making a mistake and thinking that it's going to hold him back. He remodeled the property and he was a sophomore in college, remodeled the property, made a ton of mistakes while doing that, but also learned he learned so much and he learned that continuous improvement is better than the illusion of delayed perfection.

So he jumped in, made it happen as soon as possible. He bought it for 170. He put in 30 and I think the appraised value now is close to 300. It's an amazing story. And if he can do it, I think that anybody can using the Powerful Homes techniques and the ideas presented here at Power. 180. Love to be your guide, love to help you make that leap so that you can buy your first home and create amazing stories for your life. See you next time.
